Privacy Policy — Terminal Tags
Last updated: May 13, 2026 · Effective: May 13, 2026
Bravely Studios LLC (“we,” “our,” or “us”) operates the Terminal Tags application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our App.
Introduction
Terminal Tags is a menu-bar / tray utility for macOS and Windows that tags terminal windows and launches saved AI agent profiles (Claude, Codex, Gemini, and similar). The desktop application operates primarily on your device. If you purchase Terminal Tags Pro, limited data is exchanged with our license server as described below.
Information We Collect
Desktop Application
Window tagging works entirely on your device. Tags, colors, and settings are stored locally. Agent profiles you save (name, command, working directory, environment variables, color) are stored locally in a JSON file under your home directory (~/.terminaltags/profiles.json). This file is shared with the Terminal Tags command-line tool so AI agents can register their own profiles at your direction — it is never uploaded to our servers.
License Activation (Pro only)
If you activate Terminal Tags Pro, the app sends your Bravely Account identifier, contact email, a randomly generated device identifier, and basic device metadata (platform, device name) to bravely.dev to verify your subscription. This data is associated with your purchase for the purpose of entitlement lookup. No screen contents, terminal output, or command history is ever transmitted.
Analytics
The Terminal Tags desktop app uses aggregate product analytics (app launches, tag creations, profile launches, paywall views). Events are keyed to an anonymous install identifier unless you activate Pro, at which point events are associated with your Bravely Account. You can disable analytics at any time from the app's settings. The Terminal Tags website uses anonymous website analytics.
Accessibility & Window Permissions
On macOS, Terminal Tags requests Accessibility and Screen Recording permissions to read window geometry and titles so it can draw color tags over the windows you choose. On Windows, Terminal Tags uses standard Win32 window APIs that do not require additional permissions. These capabilities are used solely to render tags on your chosen windows. Window contents are never transmitted, uploaded, or shared.
Agent Profiles & Command Execution
Terminal Tags Pro can launch terminal commands you have explicitly configured. Profile data (command, arguments, working directory, environment variables) is stored locally at ~/.terminaltags/profiles.json. The app spawns a new terminal window running the profile’s command under your user account — it does not execute anything you have not configured. Environment variables stored in a profile should not include long-lived secrets; treat that file the same way you would treat your shell rc files.
License Key & Payment
When you purchase Terminal Tags Pro, entitlement is attached to your Bravely Account and refreshed by the app. Your account identifier and device identifier are stored locally so the app can refresh entitlement status. All payment processing, billing, invoicing, and sales tax/VAT compliance is handled by our merchant-of-record billing provider. We do not collect, process, or store any payment card details.
Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect any of the following:
• Terminal input, output, or command history
• Clipboard contents
• Screen recordings or screenshots
• Location data
• Contacts or address book data
• Photos, camera, or microphone data
• Browsing history
• Advertising identifiers (IDFA, IDFV)
The desktop application uses no advertising SDKs and no third-party tracking beyond the analytics disclosure above.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties. Your data is shared only in these limited circumstances:
• With our merchant-of-record billing provider for payment processing.
• With our entitlement provider for subscription entitlement management.
• With hosting providers for website analytics and hosting of the bravely.dev license API.
• With analytics providers for product and website analytics, configured to create person profiles only for Pro subscribers.
• When required by law — we may disclose data to comply with legal obligations.
Data Retention & Deletion
Local data (tags, profiles, settings, cached entitlement) is retained until you delete it or uninstall the app. Server-side, we retain the association between your email, your device identifiers, and your subscription for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your server-side record by contacting us at jeff@bravely.dev. Upon receiving a deletion request, we will remove associated data within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
Terminal Tags is a developer tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will be updated accordingly. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
